Helen has a Bachelor of Science from Charles Sturt University (2016) and a Masters of Dietetics from The University of Canberra (2018). Helen was honoured to receive the University Medal from Charles Sturt University for her Science Degree at the completion of her studies. Prior to becoming a Dietitian, Helen was a professional Opera singer and worked with Opera Australia from 2002 til 2016. She has a Bachelor of Arts (Ancient History) (1998), Diploma of Music (Opera) (2003) and Grad. Dip Opera (2004) all from Sydney University. 

After Graduating as a Dietitian, Helen has become a Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor, and completed numerous psychology short courses to complement her work as an Eating Disorders clinician, including ACT, CBT-E, Motivational Interviewing and IFS. She is also trained in CBT-E, Family Based Therapy- FBT and Specialist Supportive Clinical Management - SSCM. Helen also has a passion for gut health and the intersection between eating disorders, anxiety and the microbiome and hence has completed numerous courses in Gastrointestinal Dietetics including the Monash FODMAPS course, multiple courses on the Microbiome, mastering SIBO, and the GUTSmart course on IBD. Helen has a particular interest in and personal experience with navigating the gluten free diet required for Coeliac disease due to her own family’s journey with this and other autoimmune conditions. 

Helen has also continued her deep interest in Nutrigenomics which began during her Master’s year when her thesis “The effect of folate supplementation on inflammatory markers in depression: a systematic review” was published. Consequently, Helen has completed courses in Nutrigenomics and enjoys exploring personalized nutrition and the evidence base behind this emerging field. Similarly, Helen has a deep compassion for navigating the complexities of nutrition and mental health. 

In recent times Helen has been engaged in doing more work for participants in the NDIS. This has involved helping participants living independently, or support and educate carers with adequate food choices. Helen loves working with parents and families with children who are struggling with food intake and uses a Responsive feeding approach to help make mealtimes more enjoyable. Helen is looking forward to expanding more into the area of fussy eating, the unique needs of neurodivergent children and adults with eating challenges and ARFID.

Beyond Helen’s special interests outlined above, as a rural generalist Dietitian, Helen sees people for a wide range of issues that are impacted by diet including Allergies and Intolerances, Menopause, PCOS and other Hormonal disorders, Diabetes, optimizing Thyroid health, Cardiovascular health (Cholesterol, blood pressure), Fatty liver, GORD/Reflux, Stoma management, Cancer nutrition, Sports nutrition, general healthy eating and much more.

At the beginning of 2023, Helen was thrilled to establish Dubbo Health Hub with colleagues Dr Heather Maleham and Dr Pethidia Mango.
